Indiana residents unite against substation
South Bend, Indiana families are trying stop Indiana Michigan Power from building a substation down the hill from their homes, citing concerns over public health and property values.
"Several years ago our nephew was diagnosed with leukemia when he was three, and one of the questions the doctors had asked was, ' Do you live next to a power plant?'," resident Mandi Bonner said. "And so that's all I think about. You know, could we one day get cancer from this?"
"If this were to happen we would be forced to move," Bonner said. "We would be forced to leave our brand new home and an area that we absolutely love."
